I’ve used [the New Metaphors Toolkit] in my class called Critical Technical Practice. The first assignment for this class is on “inverting metaphors.” Since this is an existing project and something where I had a limited amount of time, I adapted the cards a bit to the purpose. Basically, I gave everyone part of the stacks and had them “match” metaphors to concepts and share out to the group about their matchings. I used this as a kind of creative stretch or warm up before they began their assignment: to look at a popular tech article and identify the metaphors and them redesign the tech through an alternative metaphor.
